Conversations & Quotables: Q&A with DJ Get Bucc.PNG

In this brief Q&A session North Las Vegas DJ Get Bucc shares tips for artists seeking the illusive DJ spin from his perspective and along with his experiences and motivation.

Achickwitbeatz: Who is Get Bucc?

DJ Get Bucc: DJ Get Bucc is hip hop. Bucc is hungry full of energy ready to take on the world. Bucc is the definition of nothing to something, a go-getter, a hustler, a quite storm! A boss... Bucc is a leader. I feel I have something to bring to the table. I want to do for artists that want and have the hunger to be something in hip hop. In the years of being a DJ, I've learned a lot and I feel there is much more I need to learn in hip hop. There is so much I still want to do to the point that I want to start my own business in it and call it Next Level Radio. I call it "Next Level", because I'm always ready to take it to the next level.  My phrase I aways say is " I'm on may! " meaning I'm on my way to that next level in life.  I can't sit around and just do the same thing forever. I see it as there are levels in everything- life, work, growing up, relationships and so on.
I'm a member of a worldwide DJ crew called "Fleet DJs". I became a member in 2004 and a local organization called B.D.K. (Big Dog Klan) and I want to start a radio show that's different.

Achickwitbeatz: How long have you been DJing?

DJ Get Bucc: I started at the age of 15, but it started when I was very young. I would see the DJs and see it as they was the ones controlling the party, in Staten Island, NY where I am from. I always was into music, but wanted to be part of music, but I didn't know were to start.  So one day in 1996, I had a Source magazine and in the back there was DJ packages, so I got a summer job and saved up. Long story short, I started at age 15 .

Achickwitbeatz: What's your main focus when selecting what to play for a crowd?

Get Bucc: My crowd. I have to know what I'm playing for. For example, if I'm DJing a crowd of older people I'm not going to play YG or Pac, I'm playing old school or stepping type. Younger crowd I'll play newer hits, club bangers and so on. In my years as a DJ, I learned you can't please everyone but you also don't want a dead dance floor (lol).

Achickwitbeatz: What are 5 attributes/skills an artist should have to make your top 10 list?

Get Bucc:
1. Rap about something your listeners want to hear- everything don't have to be about guns, killing, hoes and all.
2. Have a radio edit verse. I get artists who always give me tracks that's not radio edited.
3. Feel the music. Rap with the beat of the track- don't just put anything down.
4. Give me something that will rock the crowd.  I need anything I know once it comes on, my crowd is wildin' out!
5. Be different, but not too different.  Stand out to the point that the listeners will be like "yo that's _______(artist name)"

Achickwitbeatz: Conversely, what are 5 attributes that would put an artist at the very bottom of your list?

Get Bucc:
1. If it's a wack beat.
2. If they're talking about something stupid that just don't make sense.
3. If all of their songs is only about how you got heat for n**** and disrespectful to females.
4. No bio, no promotion, no fan base...just something just to say you're a rapper.
5. Nothing original or someone sounding like an artist that's already out.

Achickwitbeatz: What advice do you have to offer to artists looking for DJs to put them into rotation?

Get Bucc: First off, have a radio edit.  Give us something you know will get the club rockin. Have a bio (for radio interviews), have a good friendship with that DJ...just don't send a track and and that's it.

Achickwitbeatz: What's next on the horizon for Get Bucc?

Get Bucc: I'm always taking it to the next level. I want to start a clothing line and a clothing store. I want to do a live show probably on YouTube or upstream of interviews. I want to start an organization that gets the youth more into the positive side of hip hop to let them see that it's not all about drugs, gangs, sex and the disrespect of women. I want to get local artists, singers, producers and rappers to get the youth and teach them and mentor them. I want to help the community that needs assistance but are not getting the help they need.  I hate that companies only help the homeless on holidays to make there company look good. I want to put events together and use that money to help the ones that need it.

Achickwitbeatz: How can people connect with you and stay current with what you have in the works?
