Conversations & Quotables: Q&A with Anagram

With so many people flooding the world wide web with music it's always refreshing to come across an individual who rises above the noise to deliver uncompromisingly heart-felt music delivered with expert skill. I've had the pleasure of working with Anagram and can attest to his strong love of the craft mirrored in his work ethic. Here's a brief Q&A session between myself and the talented artist you should know.

Achickwitbeatz: Who is Anagram?

Anagram: Anagram is just a name/alias I came up with as a teenager.......an anagram is a type of wordplay where you rearrange letters or phrases to create new words & phrases which is exactly what I try to accomplish with rhymes to create what's relative
to the listener.......Erik is just a humble, hardworking artist from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Achickwitbeatz: Your most recent release is "Good Company". Can you explain the concept of the album and how you came up with it?

Anagram: Good Company is a conceptual album made with idea in mind that life is all about the company that you keep. There can be all kinds of this company, the good, the bad, and the UGLY. Sometimes the good will turn bad, however we strive to surround ourselves with those who provide us with what we consider to be good company. Then there is the company that you provide to yourself when you need to be all alone and enjoy your "me time." There is always a common denominator to the album and that is honest music. The type of music that you feel the need to tell the world you know about it because it tells the truths you have been screaming for years but feel that no one is listening.

Achickwitbeatz: How long have you been doing music?

Anagram: I've been doing music longer then I can remember. I was raised in a house filled with all types of music & both of my parents sang professionally. As far as Hip-Hop I think I started in the Lincoln Elementary hallways in the 5th or 6th grade....lol I began approaching music on a professional level in 2006 as 1/3 of Michigan Hip-Hop trio M.E.D. (Mental Elastic Dynasty) & with my partner in rhyme Dave Gutter as 1/2 of The Ovastandas. "Good Company" is my first ever release as a solo artist!

Achickwitbeatz: What can listeners expect from you?

Anagram: Honest music!!! No smoking mirrors, ghost weed or facades just an honest interpretation of the ups & down of this thing we call life.....

Achickwitbeatz: What advice do you have to offer an artist looking to release their first album?

Anagram: Alleviate your focus from the "BIG" steps & focus on the small steps preparation, professionalism, work ethic, the message you're trying to convey. Then when you re-approach the "BIG" steps they seem much smaller. Stay humble! Keep the yes men/women out of your circle!

Achickwitbeatz: What are 5 attributes/skills an artist should have to make your top 10 list?

Anagram: Originality, creativity, solid technique, passion & above all just make good music.

Achickwitbeatz: Conversely, what are 5 attributes that would put artists at the very bottom of your list?

Anagram: Lack of passion, lack of rhythm, lack of technique, lack of creativity, music that sounds forced.

Achickwitbeatz: What's next on the horizon for Anagram?

Anagram: Hopefully a lot of footwork spreading the "Good Company" word! You can also definitely expect a "Ovastandas" EP this year! Maybe some future collaborations or features I'm always interested in creating with other artists & building bridges.......

Achickwitbeatz: How can people connect with you and stay current with what you have in the works?
