Success doesn't look the same for everyone. Creatives tend to be individualistic by nature, and will want different things out of life. Using someone else's definition of success to determine your own can wreak havoc on your creative process. Here are some questions to help you define what success means to you.

What do you want from your music career?

  • Self Expression: You make music to express your thoughts/feelings, people liking it is an added bonus. Do you feel that your feelings are adequately expressed? Have you conveyed the thoughts and concepts you have tried to convey? Do you feel satisfied with your creativity?

  • Money: You make music to get money or a label deal. Are you making money from your music now? Are you making connections to get you on the path to making more money? Are you closer to your goals than when you first started?

  • To Be Heard: You make music for people to enjoy. Have you received positive feedback? Have fans shared your work? Are people buying or streaming your music?

  • Fame: You make music to become famous & expand your brand. Have your video views or subscribers increased? Have your plays increased? Have your followers increased over time?

Whatever your motivation, be sure to count the victories you've achieved on your way to where you want to be.
