I wrote a blog post 4 Things to Consider to Conquer Self-Doubt and Create. I decided to create an infographic to provide a visual for the information at a glance.

It happens to many artists and quite frequently those that are tremendously talented. Being an artist requires a certain amount of sensitivity. You see the world differently and you draw from your own personal experiences and emotions to compose something that your fans will enjoy. You are pouring yourself into your music and the thought of someone not appreciating that can be a bit frightening and at times cause creative paralysis. Here are four things to keep in mind to allow you to create freely.
1. You Have A Specific Audience
In a perfect world everyone would like everything you do. Realistically, people have different tastes and preferences. This does not mean that if someone doesn’t like your work it’s no good, it means that it was not intended for them. Much like businesses have a target market, you have a target audience which can be more specifically defined as those who identify with your music. Create what’s in your heart. Your fans will be interested in what you have to say.
2. Creation Breeds Inspiration
Sometimes when you begin to create it inspires you to do more. If you have a concept that you are considering, but you're uncertain of how it will be received do it anyway. If it makes you feel better you can create it as if no one will ever hear it and only share it with a small group or your core fans. Most likely, their opinions will give you the boost you need to share it with a broader audience. Once you have brought a concept you had brewing into fruition it frees you to move on to the next.
3. Practice Makes Perfect
The more you do something, the better you will become at it. Go ahead let it out. On paper, in the studio, wherever your craft leads you. You are building your experience as well as your portfolio, setting you up to expand your abilities. It would be a shame to let self-doubt rob you of that, wouldn’t it?
4. Art Is Therapy
Much like it breeds inspiration, it can be therapeutic. With all of the things that happen in life it is great to be able to express emotions through artistry. Many artists can attest to the fact that it can be freeing to work through feelings via your craft. Whether you share it with the world or not, do it for you.
Don’t be afraid of your talent. You were given a gift for a reason and it would be sad to deprive the world of the very thing you were meant to share. You never know who needs to hear the beauty of your art for a brighter day. Let go of fear and allow yourself to experience the joy of creating and embrace it with your all.
