There are many terms casually tossed around when in the studio or sending tracks back and forth while working remotely. Having an understanding of what some of the popular ones are can make completing a track collaboration smoother.

Bit Rate: The number of bits (audio info) transmitted per second
Clipping: The distortion of the waveform that occurs when a signal is overdriven
Dynamics: The spectrum of intensity or loudness within musical tones
Headroom: The amount of signal a system can handle without distortion
Latency: The audio delay that can occur during playback
Sample Rate: The frequency an audio signal is sampled per second
Transients: The beginning of a waveform when the sound rapidly changes amplitude
